Passing the computer theory test is only the first step. The practical driving test is where a large percentage of candidates fail — often on avoidable mistakes. Unlike the theory test with a fixed question set to study, the practical test requires genuine driving skill and knowledge of Saudi-specific road behaviour.
The Practical Test Structure
- •Yard test — manoeuvres in a controlled compound: reverse parking, forward parking, hill start, narrow lane driving
- •Road test — driving on public roads with an examiner: lane discipline, turns, roundabouts, traffic lights
- •At Dallah, candidates progress through sections A, B, C, and D before the final test
- •The final road test typically takes 15–30 minutes
What the Examiner Is Looking For
- •Mirror checks — checking mirrors regularly and before every manoeuvre
- •Blind spot checks — physically turning the head before changing lanes
- •Signal use — activating indicators in advance of every turn
- •Speed compliance — staying within the posted limit at all times
- •Lane discipline — staying centred without drifting
- •Smooth control — no jerky acceleration or braking
- •Roundabout navigation — yielding to circulating traffic correctly
- •Traffic light observation — complete stop on red
- •Right of way — correct at junctions and for pedestrians
- •Following distance — maintaining safe gap from the vehicle ahead
Most Common Reasons for Failing
- •Not checking mirrors and blind spots before lane changes — the single most common failure
- •Failing to signal before a manoeuvre
- •Touching markers or kerbs during parking
- •Not making a complete stop at stop signs or red lights
- •Moving from a junction without checking oncoming traffic
- •Driving too hesitantly — this is also penalised
⚠️
Even slight mistakes in the final road test result in a mandatory 7-day retraining period before you can retest. Treat every checkpoint as critical.
Tips for Passing First Time
- 1.Complete all required training sessions
- 2.Practise yard manoeuvres until they are automatic
- 3.Narrate your checks aloud — "checking mirror, checking blind spot, signalling" — builds the habit and shows the examiner
- 4.Know right-of-way rules: roundabouts, junctions, emergency vehicles
- 5.Get a full night's sleep before the test — nerves cause avoidable mistakes
